Helping people connect with God
Here’s the line of thinking…
• God’s great desire is to connect with all people
• People’s greatest need is to have a life changing, eternity altering connection with God
• We can best help others when we have a growing, vital personal connection with God
• One of the best ways to connect with God is by helping other people connect with God
• The best way to connect with others is by helping people connect with God together – healthy community flows out of a unified cause
Since Jesus is our example in every aspect of life, we’ll best carry out our mission, by:
Recklessly Following Jesus
We are concerned that our church (and the church in general) has drifted toward becoming far too safe… too conscious of maintaining the organization… trying too much to please and serve its members. In order to remind ourselves of the priorities that we have, we’ve adopted the logo/metaphor of the rhino. The rhino is very fast – runs 30 miles an hour – but has extremely limited vision – can only see a distance of 30 feet. As a church, we want to become more “rhino like”… going full speed ahead to carry out the mission that God has given us in spite of the fact that the future is unclear and often dangerous. Was it safe when young men left their families and jobs to follow Jesus? Did Jesus ask for a vote before he ate with sinners like us at their houses? Weren’t God’s instructions ridiculous to tell the Israelites to walk around Jericho and shout rather than attack the city? We see Jesus as our King and we will recklessly follow Him.
We believe that God has intentionally and strategically designed us individually and collectively as a church. The way He created us and brought us together helps us understand who we are and how we should attempt to carry out His mission. We believe the unique “DNA” strands that God has given us, are:
Recklessness – Externally Focused – Team Oriented – Fun Loving
Taking into account the example of Jesus and the unique way that God has formed us, we attempt to accomplish the mission God has given us through these primary activities…
WorshipWe intentionally design our worship service to help young families connect with God. The worship service is also a primary means of keeping all of the church “on mission”.
ConnectEveryone is encouraged to be a part of a small group(s). We expand the traditional definition of a small group and provide training, support and accountability for leaders. Small groups are trained and encouraged to respond to the “care needs” of their group and friends and to be actively serving others. This is where real life happens and real support is given.
ServeWe’re developing a program that encourages and enables serving. We want to minister/serve inside the church and outside in our neighborhood. We will be encouraging group and individual ministry/service. We want to work hard to establish ourselves as a valuable community resource. We strongly endorse grass roots serving projects while developing some all church service projects.
